143 (Longridge) Squadron, Air Cadets

What We Do

143 (Longridge) Squadron ATC was formed on December 2nd 2005, by designation of the former 341 (Longridge) Detached Flight. This number had twice been allocated to a Squadron of the Royal Air Force.

341 (Longridge) Detached Flight has been in existence for many years, having started as a Detached Flight of 2050 (Leyland) Squadron at Garstang, meeting for some time in Claughton Village Hall. Apparently, over the years, the membership of the Garstang DF gradually came to include more and more Cadets from the Longridge area. We are not sure when the move to Longridge, meeting in Christ Church Hall, took place, or exactly when the Longridge DF was transferred to 341 (Preston) Squadron, but we do know that the Longridge DF had been established for a significant length of time before becoming 143 (Longridge) Squadron.

With the permission of ex-members of 143 Squadron RAF, 143 (Longridge) Squadron ATC has adopted the motto of the RAF Squadron - "Vincere est Vivere" (To conquer is to live) - in addition to the bull from the Longridge Town Coat of Arms, to make up its Squadron badge.
